English explanation of UWB network and IT usage rules

When using WEBnet (ZCU computer network) and IT equipment at ZCU (public computers etc.), it is neccessary to follow certain rules. This document is a translation and explanation of the most important ones. There are official documents in czech language, which define those rules:

• Rules of WEBnet network
• Rules for using mobile devices
• Rules of dormitory networks
• Rules for using public computers

and you can (and should) ask your buddy or another friend to translate and explain them to you, or use some automatic translator, before you start using any network or IT services at ZCU.

Rules of WEBnet network

• The WEBneet access is meant to be used only for educational, research, development or art purposes.
• Connecting your own devices into the network is allowed only at specified places and by specified means, which are defined in the following documents.
• It is forbidden to:
  • Connect switches, routers and other similar network devices into the network.
  • Use software and services, which might use unfairly high amount of bandwidth.
  • Use the network for downloading and sharing copyrighted materials via p2p networks or any similar activities, which infringe the copyright law or other laws.
  • Intentionally cause damage to any hardware or software equipment belonging to the network.
  • Allow other persons to access and/or use the WEBnet network.
  • Use the network under someone else's identity.
  • Take advantage of other users mistakes (e.g. using weak passwords, forgetting to log off etc.) to access personal data or cause any other harm.
  • Intercept the communication in the network.
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to identities, informations and data, belonging to other users and/or administrators.
  • Use the network for any forms of attacks against users or organizations outside the network.
  • Use the network to send spam messages.
  • Use the network for commercial, political or religious advertising or propagation.
  • Use the network to spread informations which are against the laws, ethics or morality and which may cause harm to ZCU.
